Maker’s Monday - Ian Lindstrom

Supporting small and local businesses is at the heart of our mission. As a small family run business ourselves, we value supporting our local community and economy. In addition to sourcing our meat, dairy, eggs and produce from our neighboring organic farms, we strive to support, feature and promote local makers, from artists and artisans, to furniture makers and workshops.

This Monday we are featuring Ian Lindstrom, a Maine native who grew up in Hebron, just a stones throw away! Ian is a woodworker and furniture maker who began his craft as a boy, learning beside his grandfather. After his schooling, Ian worked at Thomas Moser for five hears before branching out on his own. Ian draws his inspiration from vernacular furniture of all organs, as well as the ideals and designs of the arts and crafts movement.

He believes in the importance of returning the basics of woodworking and prioritizes using hand tools over machinery. He collects and restores a wide variety of antique tools that are then used in his craft. Ian strives to use locally sourced lumber whenever possible and invest time and energy to mill or rive his own lumber from trees harvested in the surrounding area.

We commissioned him to craft two end tables to compliment the antique cherry-wood settle in our parlor. He sketched up a few designs and tailored the shape, and perfectly matched the stain of the settles.

We couldn’t be happier with them, and hope you might marvel at them yourself and perhaps carefully perch your afternoon tea on one, (using a coaster of course!) whilst you enjoy the afternoon sunshine. We look forward to featuring more of Ian’s work in the future! Check out more of his work by clicking the link below.
